Read our reviewSupplement Reviews by Health Goal
Our supplement reviews are grouped by the health goal each product is marketed for. A product marketed for a goal is not proven to meet it, and each review explains what the evidence does and does not show.
Blood sugar and weight
Our supplement reviews of Sugar Defender and Gluco6 cover ingredients such as gymnema and chromium, and explain why these products need a doctor’s input if you take diabetes medicine.
Women’s health
Read our supplement reviews of FemiCore and FemiPro, two bladder and urinary products that turn out to be very similar, and our side-by-side comparison.
Men’s health
Our supplement reviews of ProstaVive and Erexafil look at ingredients, refund terms and the cautions around products that contain a hormone precursor.
Oral health
Our ProDentim review explains what oral probiotics can and cannot do, and why brushing, flossing and a dentist still come first.
Before You Buy Any Supplement
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you take prescription medicine or are pregnant or nursing.
- Read the refund policy: many require you to pay return shipping and send back every bottle.
- Check whether the amount of each ingredient is stated. If it is a “proprietary blend”, it usually is not.
- Be careful with promises of weight loss or of reversing a disease. A supplement is not a treatment.
- Never stop prescribed medicine because of a supplement.
For general guidance, see the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements and the FDA’s page on dietary supplements. For the details behind these tips, start with any of our supplement reviews above.
How We Review Supplements
Every review follows the same steps, so you can compare products on equal terms:
- We read the official page, the refund policy and the shipping policy, and we note the date we checked them.
- We write “not informed” when a page does not state something, such as the amount of each ingredient, instead of guessing.
- We look up published research on the ingredients and say what it shows and what it does not show. A study on one ingredient is not proof that a finished product works.
- We do not use customer testimonials we cannot verify.
We earn a commission if you buy through our links, which does not change what we write. Read our affiliate disclosure and about page.
